I totally get what you're going for and the story is there, if not a little sudden. Opening with dialog is a bold choice that's usually not advised but shorter fiction like this can get away with it. Since you did ask for feedback and I saw you use an em dash (—) in the work, it was distracting to see you use the hyphen (-) for when dialog is cut off—and for sentences like this. At least that's an easy fix and should improve your chances in the contest. Best of luck to you :)

The concept reminded me of Death Parade so I wanted to give this one a read. It was a bit more traditional than expected, more like the kind of story where people play chess matches against Death. Not a bad thing though. Anyway, best of luck on the contest to you.
