I have never been a man for religion. I couldn't tell you way, save for the fact that my father was neither. When he beat me, it was not with religious fervour but stone cold godless anger.
Sometimes I do wish, for this reason that I could believe in a god. Not the one from the New Testament, he was past it, but Old Testament God retained some of that fire that made his title a feared one. Like Egypt, I wish I could believe in time that blood would rain and infants would die in retribution for the sins of the heretic and the false worshipper.
Alas, it was but a dream.
