everyone HAS to compete in the trial its not an option. The march is only for those who succeed so those who fail down show up and those who do varies amongst the years. The success rate increases as they go. I don't recall if i had the commoners in the march but they are the biggest number of those who succeed.
Only the monastery rejects those after they fail the warrior exam. They still have to do the commoner exam but they have to do it on their own (aka get there themseleves) but its not too hard since the commoner trial is just choosing a profession and being an apprentice for them or doing a task that proves to the person they are interning under that they are worth the time or have potential which can be done in any city as long as their instructor/the person in charge reports about it to the lords of the city and they register before hand too. If they are found to have not taken all the trials they'd be considered to have broken a core law.

yup! The clams already know if you are intelligent or not and they know the type of intelligence you have (since there is more than one kind of intelligence) and ask you a question in order to find out your character and your thought process behind your answers!

Its a month long event so I guess if they make it out but only after a month they are deemed a waste of time unless they come out with an egg; which in that case there would be gaurds there making sure that no one went there not during trials and then the dragon rider's hang out zone is in that area so might be spotted xd maybe heh
