Wow, this story really was heavy! You clearly have a good handle of the setting; it was very well-articulated and came to life. I also liked how all of the multicultural characters had their own motivations and problems -- this made them feel more real and their interactions more significant. I wish I could've seen more of the narrator and Rosalita!

Just the first paragraph! I think you can break it off at "[...] she didn't have to worry." because after that you sort of change ideas into Elly's own feelings regarding the high school as opposed to thinking about her step mother. I also think smaller paragraphs can be less intimidating if you're reading a web novel on a time budget!

Thank you so much! I was afraid the tone of the entire piece would be too serious, and I also wanted the reader to have some fun!

I've been meaning to read more of Ishiguro -- The Buried Giant is actually the only thing I've read from him. Also, I did a lot of googling for some of these chapters. I'm glad it shows!
