I'll go through and edit that first portion. My editor told me something similar and I implemented said changes later in the chapter. As for Minato's intentions, while I attempt to make him a kind-hearted protagonist; at the end of the day he's still a kid in his teens. I am attempting to add a level of realism with his character.

This may not be the best comparison, but think of the seed almost like a pokeball. The knight gave her the seed as a way to not only insure that she healed up properly, but as a way to hide her from her pursuer.

I can't give away too much, but more of her past will be unveiled in later chapters.

With Minato, I attempted to add a level of realism to him. I know that's funny considering the context, but I've always been enamored by protagonists like Ichigo Kurosaki and Yusuke Urameshi. Protagonists who actually act their age y'know? The ones who while they have that uncaring cool guy persona, they have hearts of gold and never turn their backs from those in need.

As for the knight situation, think of it as a necessary Chekhov's gun. Everything is added for a reason. That's all I can really say on it. As for the third person switch, I felt it'd be best from a narrative standpoint. Certain scenes don't exactly work in the first person in the same way that certain scenes don't work in third. I utilize the switches in a way to describe said scenes with better, richer detail.

I went ahead and fixed the pacing issue there. Thank you for pointing it out. I was attempting to have it be a funny little nod to the title of the story, but I understand that it made things feel a bit rushed.

I'm glad you enjoy the concept of her being royalty. When outlining the series, it was honestly the only way that I could make her whole dynamic work 😂. It opened the door to a lot more story wise.

I took a lot of things that worked with the previous incarnation of the story and tried incorporating them into this reboot. The original has Hiro visit a entirely different tape before getting to the meat of the story, and I feel like it just wasted too much time. I still have a bit of a issue writing dialogue, but I trust that throughout this reboot I'll get better. I'm glad that you enjoyed it, and I hope the newer chapters are up to par.

I figure with this re-telling of the story, hopping straight into the action is what the story needed. Before it took about five chapters before the camp was even introduced. Starting chapter 2, you will begin to see Hiro explore Camp Gehenna. While I hinted at the inclusion of Michael in this chapter, he will gradually become more included as the story progresses

I want this re-telling of the story to be much more fulfilling to the readers. Originally I was rushed and the plot didn't really come out to be what I had originally planned. While this one deviates off of the beaten path as well, I think it does in a way that better shows my vision.

I'm a big fan of horror and this series will serve as a love letter to all the films and media that has helped me create that love. I'm glad you enjoyed it

Mystery is at the core of this story, I trust as you progress further you will enjoy as the mystery is unraveled. Whether that be in the form of questions being answered or more questions forming. Madman's Forgiveness is a wild ride. 🍔

It makes me incredibly happy to know that you enjoy the series so far! I first conceptualizing it back in 2018 and gradually built upon it throughout the years.
This competition finally gave me an outlet to finally putting out a solid version of it.

With that said, whether or not I win. I plan on posting a revamped version post competition with better/more fleshed out scenes and characters who didn't make it into this version of the story.

Stay tuned and if you have any questions while reading, let me know. I'd be glad to answer any. 🍔

Glad you enjoyed the series, and yeah lol. When writing, I had a old playlist that I would go through for inspiration. For certain chapters, I felt it best to go with song titles. In this one there is a double reference.

In Suzume's first appearance when she is about to transfer schools, she tells Hiro to just forget about her. This chapter is a mirror of that one in a way. In both situations, one may say she's "leaving."

I chose the song title to harken back on such a nostalgic moment in hopes that it would have a better impact.

Stay tuned. After the competition, whether I win or not I will be posting a revamped version of the story that I have dubbed the "Director's cut."
Which will have more fleshed out scenes, cut characters, and everything that I wasn't able to add to this version. 🍔

The setting isn't the 1950's. Rather, it's based off of feudal japan. If you're referring to what year the film was shot, then it's more-so in the late 2000's/early 2010's.
Even so, there's a reason she speaks the way she does. I should probably clarify better in a later version.
As for the walking, it's easy to get lost at night in an area unknown to you. 🍔

Hiro isn't supposed to know this information. This chapter and the following are moreso just the backstory of how Suika came to be. To do so, I had to properly explain a bit about the man who adopted her.

Hello everybody! Freaknaztec here. I want to thank all of you for reading and enjoying my series. There's a lot that can be ironed out with it I'm noticing, but I would like to thank each and every one of you for sticking through with it.

Post competition, I plan on revisiting the series and making it much better than it is now. Such changes will include better pacing, better character development, all the things you'd look for in a story like this. So stay tuned everyone! Also, as for chapter 17. I was pretty sleepy that day and ended up accidentally fusing together two of the endings. So I apologize if there's any confusion.

I'm glad you enjoy the series! I spent a lot of time formulating everything. This version may have been a bit rushed however. I plan on fixing up things post competition. Such changes will include better pacing, new characters, and a better use of the setting. 🍔
