Realisation of a failed success

William had been unconcious for 3 days, with a broken arm that didn't heal as his ability stopped working after he got unconcious, everyone was getting worried now but they couldn't take him to a hospital so Alice and Martin were treating him. Martin was a brilliant scientist so he was able to give a good medical treatment to William.

Finally and thankfully William woke up on the 5th day. He had a severe headache when he woke up and asked for Axcel. Axcel told everyone to leave the room so that they could have a conversation comfortably. Alice wasn't leaving but William told her its ok she can leave.

William: What happened to the mission?

Axcel: You shouldn't be worried about that.

William: Answer me!

Axcel: The mission was a success, you guys were able to escape with Lily.

William: No, it wasn't.

Axcel: What do you mean?

William: We failed pathetically out there Nathan let us escape.

Axcel: Don't be ridiculous does it look like he let you escape? And why the hell would he let you escape?

William: Exactly it doesn't look like it to you because you weren't there. If you were there you would know he could kill all four of us at once without breaking a sweat.

Axcel: You didn't answer my second question. Even if he could kill all of you why didn't he?

William: I don't know that's what's bothering me never have I ever been disrespected like this or failed so miserably in my life.

Axcel: Oh gosh William! This isn't the time for your fricking ego to step in.

William: This isn't ego its self evaluation if i can't beat Nathan I sure as hell can't beat The Head.

Axcel: Don't worry about we have ample of time for it.

William: How can I not worry?!!! We failed!!!

Axcel looked down, sighed and didn't know what to say after that, he decided that he should give William time to heal both physically and mentally. When he looked up he noticed William had fainted once again. He yelled out his name and tried to wake him up but it didn't work. He called Martin and Alice back in the room to check him up.

After a few hours at night William was awake and he saw Alice sitting besides him. She was telling Wlliam to take care of himself and not worry about stuff. William didn't reply to her but was listening to her without any signs of disagreement. Alice was about to leave so that William could rest.

Just as Alice stood up and turned back to leave William grabbed her hand and told her to stay with him. When Alice looked back she saw tears flowing out of William's eyes. She got worried for him she sat on the bed and hugged him to calm him down.

William told her how he worked so hard but was met with a failure at the end despite all his efforts. Alice told him to look at her and stop crying now as she is here with him. Then she told him that every human fails once or twice but only to learn and that he should know better than anyone that his path is not an easy one. William was comforted by her words and told her to stay with him for the night. Alice told him that if he wanted she would stay with him forever and got in the bed with him.

William put his head on her lap and told her all of his fears. Alice wiped William's tears and showed him affection. In doing so William stopped crying and slept soundly. Alice was happy that he was ok now and put his head back on the pillow. Then Alice hugged him but not tightly, as William had a broken arm and slept.

William may have been calmed down and comforted but he was still feeling regret for failing but another thought was stuck in his mnd that why did Nathan let them go?
