Chapter 52:

The mad queen unleashed

En Passant Grandmaster

Utami huddled in a corner and trembled as Mimoko slapped Okisato across the face. "What did you do to her this time!?"

"I just introduced her to my teacher and he humiliated her... And me," Okisato mumbled.

"Your teacher?"

"Yeah, he even beat us both with a Důras gambit."

"Tanabe-kun, lie like that again and I'll slap you once more."

"Madman's Důras... Madman's Důras," Utami shuddered.

Mimoko immediately went pale. "No, U- Utami-chan, you lost to a Důras gambit!?"

"MIMOKO-SAMA! FORGIVE ME! I'M A FAILURE! WAAAAAAAAH!"

"No you're not. You did well to play at a rapid pace like that. Just never underestimate plays like that again. Remember how you first thought Shouben-san's moves were reckless? It's the same thing. Never underestimate reckless moves," Okisato nodded.

"Don't worry Utami-chan, I'll make sure to train-"

"No, there's someone else in greater need of your training, Inoue-senpai."

"And who might that be? It better not be you."

"Gorou-san."

"Gorou-kun?"

"Yes. Haven't you noticed he's been kind of down ever since the tournament last week?"

"He didn't seem much different to me."

"Because he doesn't show much emotion, but his actions and body language tell the whole story; he's desperate to improve his skill."

"Tanabe-kun, what do you mean?"

"Guess I should explain, I tend to be able to sense what others are thinking and can theorize their next course of action."

"Like playing chess."

"Right, though you tend to analyze the board more than the person moving the pieces, which is not a bad thing per say since you tend to find the best possible moves, however I prefer to analyze my opponent themself in order to find the best possible moves to counter them. That's how I've gotten so good at chess."

Mimoko nodded and decided to leave things there. However, she was still insistent on training Utami. Okisato then decided to ask about how she was training Utami.

"Well, I'd show her the moves on the board-"

"And how did she react?"

"She'd always have a blissful smile on her face."

"I figured. She was focusing too much on you instead of the game. Now let me take over with her, you talk with Gorou-san when you have the chance."

"It's almost time for the third round though."

"Perfect. Utami-chan, if you lose or draw, you'll be joining me in playing my mentor again," Okisato snickered as a malicious grin appeared on his face.

Utami let out a shriek and ran away.

"See Inoue-senpai, now she'll do better."

SLAP!

As Utami ran, fear and insanity merged together in her mind as she thought of a way to win her next match. "Důras... Heh, hahahaha..."

...

Utami began giggling in a deranged manner as her opponent glared at her. "So it is you from the skittles room. You were making an unpleasant scene, and now you have an unpleasant look. Well, you're only rated 1001 while I'm 1792. Time to put you in your place," Bibi thought as she moved her pawn to e4.

Utami immediately let loose a deranged smile as she moved her pawn to f5.

"You are a lost soul, check" Bibi scoffed as she moved her queen to h5.

Utami merely shrugged and moved her pawn to g6 as Bibi moved her queen to h4. Then, Utami moved her king to f7. "Mad queen's Důras," she said to herself.

"This girl can't be serious," Bibi thought as she moved her knight to h3.

Utami took the opportunity to capture the pawn at e4 with her f-pawn, but quickly found herself in check when Bibi moved her knight to g5, forcing her to move her king to g7 and watch as her pawn at e4 was captured by Bibi's queen.

"Yes, now I see. There is a method to the madness. Oh Mimoko-sama, I have sinned. Though I guess now I've truly become a mad queen. YOUR mad queen!" Utami thought as she moved her knight to f6.

Undeterred, Bibi moved her queen to h4 as Utami moved her pawn to e5. "Does she think she's a genius? She's clearly deluded," Bibi thought as she moved her bishop to d3.

"Oh what a stupid move!" Utami gleefully thought as her deranged smile grew bigger and she moved her bishop to e7.

Without thinking, Bibi immediately moved her knight to f7. "Shit! I threw away my knight! No! Why didn't I move my bishop to c4 instead!?" she agonized in her mind as Utami captured the knight at f7 with her king.

Bibi then began to panic and castled as Utami advanced her pawn to d5. Completely unaware of the trap she was falling for, Bibi moved her knight to c3.

"GOT YOU! Utami maniacally laughed in her mind as she moved her knight to e4.

Bibi's eyes widened with horror as she stared at the board. Her queen was trapped and would be lost in the next two turns. "Shit! SHIT!" she tearfully thought as she moved her queen to h6, the only safe spot for the queen. Then Utami moved her bishop to g5, completely dooming the queen's hope of survival.

"Shit SHIT!" Bibi cried as she captured the knight at e4 with her knight and watched as her queen at h6 was mercilessly captured by Utami's bishop.

"No, get your head in the game, girl. It's not over yet," Bibi thought as she regained her composure and moved her knight to g3.

"Now she's just running scared," Utami thought as she moved her pawn to c6.

Her theory seemed to hold true as Bibi moved her bishop to e2. while she moved her knight to d7.

Then, Bibi moved her pawn to d3. "ANOTHER BLUNDER!" Utami maniacally thought as she captured the bishop at c1 before Bibi could even process what happened.

Bibi put her hand over her face in grief as she captured the bishop at c1 with her a-rook. "I'm cracking. No, NO more blunders!" she thought as Utami moved her knight to c5. She then moved her c-rook to d1 as Utami decided to move her king to g7. "What was that for? Well, seems she doesn't know how to win. I'll turn things around with that," Bibi thought as she moved her pawn to c4.

Utami quickly moved her bishop to e6 followed by Bibi moving her pawn to d4. Utami immediately captured said pawn with her e-pawn while Bibi moved her pawn to b4, forcing Utami to move her knight to the safety of a4. Bibi then decided to move her f-rook to e1, giving Utami the opportunity to capture the pawn at c4 with her d-pawn.

Undeterred, Bibi moved her knight to e4 as Utami gleefully advanced her pawn to d3. "She really doesn't see it," Utami thought as Bibi moved her bishop to f1.

Utami then threatened Bibi's knight by moving her bishop to f5, but instead of moving it, Bibi instead moved her pawn to h4. "'What an idiot' is probably what you are thinking," Bibi thought as Utami captured the knight at e4 with her bishop. "However, this is merely a trade," Bibi thought as she captured the bishop at e4 with her rook.

"WHAT AN IDIOT!" Utami thought as she moved her knight to c3. Now Bibi began to truly panic as she captured the pawn at d3 with her bishop. "BA-KA!" Utami thought as she captured the bishop at d3 with her c-pawn.

Now without any bishops, and soon to be down a rook, Bibi moved her e-rook to e1 and began to cry as Utami captured her rook at d1 with her knight.

"I don't want to lose. My rating will drop if I lose to someone as low rated as her," Bibi trembled as she captured the knight at d1 with her rook.

"FINALLY! The mad queen may begin her conquest!" Utami gleefully thought as she advanced her queen to d5 causing Bibi to panic and move her rook to f1. "Well now you're dead. Mate in 9," Utami thought as she moved her pawn to d2.

Unaware of her imminent doom, Bibi moved her rook to d1 while Utami moved her a-rook to e8. Bibi then began to cry harder as she saw no way to save herself and moved her pawn to a4.

"CHECK!" Utami maniacally grinned as she moved her rook to e1.

"I won't resign. I won't resign. I have some pride, dammit!" Bibi thought as she moved her king to h2.

"Seems she's the prideful type that refuses to surrender when mate is imminent. Well, she's getting mated anyway," Utami thought as she moved her queen to e5.

Bibi responded by moving her pawn to f4, only for Utami to capture it with her queen without issue, forcing her to move her pawn to g3 on her next turn.

"I'll spare your rook at least," Utami snickered as she moved her rook to e2, forcing Bibi to move her king to h3.

Utami didn't let up and moved her queen to f5, leaving Bibi with no choice but to move her pawn to g4.

Now there was nothing stopping Utami from delivering the coup de grâce and moving her queen to f3. "CHECKMATE! My it feels good to mate with the mad queen," Utami snickered as Bibi burst into tears.

Okisato glanced over and smiled. "I knew it. Now she's a mad queen, just like she always wanted," he maniacally smiled as he mated his opponent.

As she was leaving the room, Mimoko caught a glimpse of Utami. Sorrow spread to her face as she saw the maniacal smile plastered on Utami's face. "Utami-chan..."
