Wow, that's quite the review. I'm actually thrilled that you caught a lot of things that have remained unwritten in my outline. Due to the word limit and themes, I stuck to the events revolving around Chiffon and Caramello, with much of it in Chiffon's limited perspective. As such, readers may catch a few places that may seem odd.
Places like how robotic Chiffon's guards were, how Lord Scho rose in renown despite being a child, why guards and underlings of nobility would dare to fight against the Princess, or even why Caramello would have the backing of an Earl despite his history.
You may begin to see cracks in this kingdom, that of which Chiffon is blind to. The very fact that the king and queen are able to manipulate minds should bring about a big red flag.
And as such, I don't feel like this story is over. Rather, I have it in mind that Chiffon will begin to chip away at this society now that she is no longer 'prim and proper' as intended, with Caramello/Fragolo (Framello? Caragolo?) by her side. The final lines of this novel hint towards a rejection of such established beliefs (represented by the cake idiom), and that is where more of the world is revealed.
As for the cuisine... maybe I just really love red velvet cake and Darjeeling tea, haha. I actually didn't think too hard about the food, as I put down what was in front of me at the time of writing. I basically just had fun with this story as I didn't really know what to expect for this contest. It was a different experience than the short stories that I normally write, and certainly not something that I thought to put on the web before being dragged into this contest, haha.
