I guess I get the intent, and maybe this is just me being an insufferable critic, but when a writer uses symbolism with sub-brick levels of subtlety it makes me think they have very little faith in their audience, even if there's an in-universe explanation for it

I have to say, though, the symbolism in this chapter felt so heavy handed it almost makes it feel like you're talking down to your audience. The whole thing about a false reality and pushing the responsibility of making the hard decision onto someone else is very literal, especially when it's literally followed up by someone saying, verbatim "only you, the viewer can answer." It feels like you don't trust your audience to understand a basic moral dilemma

I've had a thought. Was the war that caused this apocalypse a nuclear one? Cos if so, and this is taking place in and around Geneva, then they should be thriving, at least compared to everywhere else. Switzerland has enough nuclear bunkers for it's whole population and then some, they should be practically ruling the world
