yep. to me this psy horror is really about the cruelty and isolation that so many experience in certain systems. neither Masaru nor Sayane have a ton of personal autonomy because they’re just broken, beat down, bitter people. but in their hearts they are good. I love the idea of we as an audience are meeting them at the latter point of two very cruel, disappointing lives, when their hope is all but gone. this is a story of their spirals. and to me, that is true horror. not what goes bump in the night but the idea of slowly being ripped apart by pain until there’s nothing left. crying out for help but never being seen.
