the vulnerability and acceptance was huge. At this point, both of them truly think that Sayane is likely about to fade. for her that’s horrific but shows how selfless she is in this adventure. and Azag has finally connected with someone after a life of isolation but he is about to lose her. still he knows they have to press on, even if they both just want to stay hidden in that bed.

I still get so happy reading this chapter. and I agree, Sayane’s line about keeping his mask on is one of my absolute favorites. it’s very soft and understanding, but also very hit. and yep I loved the idea of our burly warrriors and heroes getting together and dancing to break the ice.

insert “wavelength” meme of current moving between two people’s heads 🤣
but there’s something cool about writing about early civilizations and the ones that come afterwards. I loved that about Fellowship of the Ring especially. it did a great job painting that vision of this lost world that had long past, like all the ruins everywhere etc. I’m trying to capture that vibe in both stories.

this is definitely a spiritual companion to Destroyers. that’s probably the story most akin to this one. but it’s fun going full on high fantasy with this one. I’m treating this like an origin story of a civilization. very inspired by old religions and founding narratives for ancient kingdoms. and Tolkien of course!
