I think this idea of soldier as an emissary of peace is very Japanese viewpoint
I never really explore her reasons for fighting in this story but i envisioned her "just doing her job" a sentiment pretty common in US soldiers fighting in Europe in ww2
She enlisted before war broke and wasn't driven by the hate during the war
