Not sure if this was intended, but so far it sort of reads like Jess is living through some sort of extended period of shock. The time skips around, disjointed scenes, Jess/Jason's distinct personality differences, all make it feel like she/he/they're experiencing the world in almost a trance.
It's definitely an interesting writing style and I honestly find it pretty captivating since it makes me want to read and get more to the bottom of what exactly is running through his/her/their brain.
