"And she loved Ethan in a way that never meant forever" - what a great line, full of so many emotions. I can feel that Ethan knew her love would be fleeting. Even if they dated, she'd leave him someday out of boredom or passion for someone new.
Interesting that Layla already feels something as soon as she woke up. I wonder how that happened? Sure it's circuits anticipating the next action like chat gpt, but the way you wrote it makes her seem more alive. More cognizant of what's going on.
