Um... this is her company right? The company that she has legendary status with and can practically write her own ticket anytime she wants, and could at any time get the CEO (or any other senior account executive) on a phone call without any difficulty? Instead of all this "Mission Impossible" shenanigans, wouldn't it just be easier to file a memo stating that she's discovered, "...serious fiscal and legal irregularities regarding the finances surrounding the Sonokata deal and that moving forward with that project would not be in the best interests for Sunrise Global Trading as it could place unacceptable risk in our position in the real estate markets for that region..." And don't tell me Ryoko couldn't make this work; we're talking about a woman who could sell refrigerators to Eskimos.

Um... hold on, if this is Episode 6 but from Ryoko's POV, then what happened to Akari? She was a pretty significant part of that episode IIRC (in fact, arguably a very important one, seeing as it was probably the only time she's faced significant opposition as an adult). Did she just edit that part out from her own memory?

So this chapter is our first true introduction of our MC and it's well done in the respect that we get an immediate sense of her personality through her actions, classic "show, don't tell", when she repeatedly offers her food to the "homeless". However, then things take an ugly turn and the descriptions don't fail us, subtle build up of the growls, guttural and ominous. The muggers honestly are almost superfluous by comparison, but it's Diane's previous kindness that's remembered, though apparently it's going to be a 2-way sword, as she then gets disappeared.

Strong start.

So yes, this one is more of a transition chapter. One of the challenges of shorter chapters I've found is trying to ensure each chapter pushes the narrative along briskly, faster than my previous works.

I definitely was going for that abrupt shift from the previous chapter of "I'm a perfectly normal girl" living a completely mundane but happy life to having her entire life flipped completely upside-down, and the visceral shock, especially with someone who's peaceful life shatters with her hands stained with blood (who likely never hurt anyone in her entire life). Suffice to say, everything from here forward about her life is about to change.

So interesting choice to go first person perspective. In this case, this allows us to really get a feel the suffering our MC is going through on a deep and personal level. Line like him considering giving up drive him how he's really starting as long as someone can get; he really has a journey ahead of him. Will see where this goes from here.

So this was to be his last mission, but as you saw, things didn't go as planned. There's a darker reason for the betrayal beyond just "Inen was a bad guy" that will become clear in the chapters ahead and the story unfolds, but suffice to say, Akira's actions came back to haunt him, but even in death, it's not over, as the next few chapters will quickly make clear.

First of all, I'll freely admit the call to the friends was a narrative convenience, and one that could be chalked up to a spur of the moment emotional choice. That said, you actually got me curious so I went and looked it up. The Avg response time for Japanese police response from a 110 call (police emergency) around 2024 clocks in (according to various sources) about 9-10 minutes, which isn't bad, but still not a case where you want to be standing still in the middle of the street at night, thinking that there are "mysterious men out to get you".

Sigh... early prediction... Miki will soon be banished to the virtual cornfield in her soon-to-be-future. That's assuming Shota doesn't suffer some kind of psychotropic addiction from overdosed brain hormones (which Ryoko being a medical school graduate of all people should know is a legit risk).

Then again, she's barely scraped what she could be doing, based on the premise that's been set up in terms of the # of organs that are in the brain and their respective functions, as so far, she's only really touched on the Amygdala.

So one of the things at least for this chapter I wanted to show in terms of an isekai set up, which I thought was not common was the MC had a life worth living and getting isekai'ed wasn't the "best thing that ever happened to her", and losing that life would be a sacrifice for her. You are also correct with her BFFs skill sets; those will come into play.

Kenji's dismissal of 'children's stories' is mostly born out of seeing the bad things the Empire has become, but he will become a believer very shortly.

So this is ironically one of those cases of a self-fulfilling prophecies. Had the Empire just left things well enough alone and allowed him to retire gracefully, then in all likelihood, their tyranny would have continued on at least quite some time at least until the next cycle of rise/fall of empires. But human nature is what it is.

So clarification; Akiko is in the literature club; Keiko is in the science club and Masako is in the kendo club. I got maybe a little too economical with my word usage there. And yes, I did verify that Tsuru High (a real high school) had those clubs and yes, those backgrounds are all going to come into play as the story progresses.

Akira's return, not so much, but the people who knew Akira, very much so as he had a major impact on that world. Keiko and Masako, are also going to be very important for this journey in very different aspects; they're not just background elements, promise.

I was absolutely thinking "anime choreography" when I plotted that fight out, including some exaggerated moves that probably wouldn't fly in a real-life fight.
