A little bit of irony that the Emperor himself warned Masako that Masahiro died because he grew overconfident w/ this sword. Like father, like son.
The story is intentionally left wide open for a Vol#2 on where it goes from here. Akiko attempting to pick up the pieces of a shattered Empire is part of the story, how successfully remains to be seen. It was pointed out to me that Keiko and Masako are likely not long for peace in Japan, themselves having gone through so much themselves. Masako still bears the stain of multiple deaths by her hand on her conscience, which is life-changing to say the least, while Keiko has been opened up to magic, which has been confirmed to work on Earth (they opened up a portal to kidnap people to bring to the other world). It likely wouldn't be long before the 3 of them would be reunited in the other world, and not necessarily in the best of terms, given how they separated, but all of this is hypothetical on if another novel gets created or not.
