So the point you make about the chapter ending on the mission and how it feels about the pacing (and the relative shortness) has me thinking maybe I should have merged this with the second chapter (which introduces the girl), all of which is part of the challenge of writing such short chapters and making the pacing happen.

I did confirm locations were OK. I actually changed the noodle shop's name (originally did use a real shop's name) to "Hana" (which I hope isn't a real name by sheer happenstance). "Akihabara Electric Town" I would have thought should have been acceptable, though I'm guessing you're pointing at "Cat Cafe Mocha" (which yes, is a real place), which I guess I can come up with something else.

So the biggest thing I wanted to accomplish here was the loss of Kenji (for now), which forces Akiko to become a proactive protagonist. She's been given the basic set up, now the next steps are on her. Hiromi/Hiroshi are a reminder of who she was, and who she is fighting for in this world.

So I did some research on medieval armor; gambeson was the armor of choice for day-to-day living. It was the one that combined ease of wear, concealability and protection and was also the under armor for heavier armors. Bulkier armor does protect better but would be far more obvious and takes practice to wear, which I wanted to reflect here. For Akiko, I went with dual smaller swords to give her a specific style, to contract Masako who uses the classic single katana.

Yes, Masahiro became Masako. The sword's will though is a piece of Masako's own soul, so as the Emperor says, it's not like she's being "controlled" by someone else, but more like being reunited by her past life (OK, splitting hairs here).

Keiko plays a very pivotal role as you will see.

So the soul blades in this world are among the most powerful weapons that merge the highest levels of magic with the souls of their intended wielders. The drawback as the Emperor states is that makes them only usable by the person (or in this case, soul) they were forged for. The kicker/hint here is, "正弘=Masahiro, 正子=Masako"; in other words, they're the same soul-just like Akira became Akiko, Masahiro became Masako.

So yes to the big bad and training. Of particular note, this was where I laid out the system of magic I came up with and the mechanics on how it works. It explains why mages in this world all carry around crystals, which have highly structured molecular structures (something I'm pulling from my college days), which formed the basis of my idea that converting those structures to mathematical formulas formed the basis of this world's magical formulas. Being rather complex, most mages carry these crystals around rather than trying to memorize them. However the fact that they are actual just math equations comes into play later in a crucial scene.

OK yeah, training arc trope is just a tad predictable I'll admit. I'm a believer of making sure things follow a natural progression and for Akiko to start kicking tail, even with "reincarnated skills", something had to bring them out. As you correctly put it, this ends the set up, lays the ground work, and moves to the main story from here.
