"It should be, but we can boil it just to make sure."
"Great, I'll fetch some then."
OK, I'm not positive who said which (I think Diane asked the question), but never drink lake water right from the lake (and as a nurse, she should know this). That's playing bio- Russian roulette. People have gotten seriously ill or even close to death. Boiling will eliminate the pathogens, but even that won't get rid of minerals and toxins, but it's better than nothing. Modern filtration would be better, but I get that Diane doesn't have that handy right now (nor the magical powers to create it, I assume).
(I actually have a chapter/passage touching on this in my own story about the need for water purification).
It's amazing the fish tastes good with no seasoning, but if you're hungry enough, then anything tastes good.
And... cliffhanger? what's about to happen?
