So the loss of Kenji at this point was mostly a narrative choice here; this is to force Akiko/Keiko to take the lead on what to do next and start to make active choices instead of just passively going along for the ride. The basic lay of the land has been presented to them, now it's all up to them where to go.

Slavery of course is not stranger to many isekai (hell for that matter much of our world, both in history and reality). The logical thought was that maybe Masako was being sold off as a slave, so that was the first place they thought to check).

As the Emperor himself points out, "controlling" implies someone else is overriding Masako's will. In this case, it's her own soul that's reuniting with the sword. Now you could start saying that's splitting hairs with saying that souls and minds, but at least that's how he's justifying it. But yes, that's where we're heading with this little grooming sessions.

So now the other penny has dropped; 正弘=Masahiro / 正子=Masako. Masako wasn't "chosen" per say to wield this weapon; in a sense, this weapon was always hers to begin with as she is "Masahiro" in a very real sense. We're going on the idea that reincarnation is the "same soul" in the next body. And yes, as you've already guessed, the seeds are being laid for a rematch between Masahiro vs Akira only this time, it's going to be Masako vs Akiko.

Keiko (like most people) has never flown on a flying wyvern, so dangling from that high up from a precarious position isn't something she wanted to see. Akiko isn't going to be able to meet w/ Akira, but she will meet with many of the people he's touched.

So Masako getting held hostage for Akiko's return certainly was on the Empire's mind. The magic system I came up with is based on the mathematic representation of chemical structures, specifically crystals, which have an ordered molecular structure that can be mapped out with fractals. This is the reason in this world magic users carry around those crystals; they're basically using them as formula or foci for spells. The difference as you'll soon see is that Keiko is a math/science prodigy from modern Earth, which puts her math skills significantly above a medieval norm (this comes into play later; it's an isekai cheat skill).

Akiko worried that Akira's personality would conflict is a minor point I touched on because it's something that occurred to me on all these reincarnation isekai that when someone shows up like this, they're basically taking over the previous person, so I wanted to at least address it.

Kenji was first seen way back in Chp2 and was mentioned as being Capt Fujiwara's sergeant, mentor and best friend, so that should give a clear indication on where his loyalties lie.

As was stated, mom works as an ER doctor, which as I understand, wouldn't keep personal cell phones while making their rounds. Now, her dad, you might have a point; Japanese salarymen while drinking away with their office mates though aren't exactly the most attentive to their personal cell phones, probably figuring, "eh... I'll be home in a few hours anyway...".

So one of my goals was to intentionally subvert the standard isekai goal of the MC being a hikikomori (isolated loner) to the point were being isekai'ed away was somehow the best thing that ever happened to them. I wanted to deal with the cost and consequence that the life one loses here is worth something; hence Akiko's life here is actually meaningful and not just something she's going to toss and forget.

As for how it ties to Akira, a not-so-subtle hint which is specified in the author's notes: 晶=Akira / 晶子=Akiko, same last name, same kanji.

So this being an OG work, it was important to kick things off fast. Per the contest guidelines, it was recommended to keep chapters short, brisk and the style easy to read. In this case, Akira needed to be someone who could be understood and identified with quickly so his passing could be felt just as meaningful. Also, rest assured, his impact won't end here.

As the title suggests, I wanted to start off with the main character as an honorable man, who's previous life was wrongfully murdered. Per the genre, we'd be visiting the modern world in the very next chapter to establish where Akira's next life came to pass and where he would be given a second chance. The story does have some flashbacks to fill in some of Akira's life, along with some of his life and allies come into play as the story unfolds.

So as the story will later reveal, Akira was always a good man who started when the Empire wasn't quite as bad. But over time, corruption hollowed out what decency there was in the Kingdom, which led to him realizing he couldn't serve it any longer.

As the title states, yes, Akira's next reborn life is the one who will be avenging this wrongful death.

Um... was he wearing body armor? Kevlar? Magical protection? Anything? Ivan's an expert (or at least experienced) killer correct, wielding a cutlass? Cutting across the center torso with no armor goes way beyond pain tolerance; you're looking at multiple organs sliced open, massive internal hemorrhage, stuff that needs a modern hospital, not something he's going to just "walk it off", unless magic is involved.
