So in addition to showing their growing closeness and developing friendship (and possibly more), this little backstory (and current situation) is meant to show Kyoko as kind of a sheltered lifestyle and how in some ways, she is very much a "Princess" in the sense that despite living in high means, she really hasn't been exposed to much outside of what her overprotective father considers "appropriate" to their social status, admittedly with a biased lens.

So, yes, this chapter was definitely what I would call a "transition" chapter. Even the name was meant to imply it more of a "slice of life" moment for the various leads, showing their individual lives and how their initial meeting and how their lives have slightly changed through the interaction of the people (ie, co workers, fellow students). Yes, the opening is alluding to stuff that will pay off down the line (not for the better though).

So at least at first, I wanted the attraction to be between the leads and build that chemistry. However, the external challenges, social media, societal expectation, and of course, the dangers of organized crime had to be established so once things got heated they don't simply come out of nowhere.

So the "Working man/rich girl" is actually one of the tropes being featured in this contest (Spotlight Romance). It could have been the other way around (guy/girl), a different celebrity, famous athlete, politician, etc but that was the starting point. The tension around the romance is stuff that I'm trying to build that will come to a head as things clash but at least early on, I'm trying to build their chemistry.

So, Kumiko is sort of my representative of social media and the drive to be first to publish and clicks for fame. Yoriyoshi actually became more important later in the story than initially planned. He was originally (here) just going to be sort of an assignment guy, but later sort of morphed into Kyosuke's friend as the story progressed.

So here is where I had to start doing some actual research; having never been to Tokyo, i had to trust that Google wasn't lying to me on which neighborhoods were considered the 'wealthy' parts and which were the 'poor' parts (the latter coming up later). In the former case, once I found the neighborhood, I also confirmed that actual mansions (my initial idea) were actually rare and that most wealthy people lived in high-rises (due to astronomical real estate prices I'm sure).

I actually missed changing the name "Toyota" to something else; we were supposed to change all such names to something non-copyrighted. I later changed "Honda" to "Panda".

So Chez Kooun was loosely based on a real club I dug out of a Shinjuku Google lookup, but Honeyfeed forbids using real names (copyright issues) so in this case, names were changed to protect the innocent. In this case, it's a high-end dance club with multiple levels and expensive VIP suites.

I was trying to build Kyoko as sort of a sheltered wealthy heiress model. Just going to a place like this was a minor act of rebellion, explaining why things go badly so quickly. I was actually borrowing from a scene from "Taken" on their initial meeting (the pop idol scene).

So the point you make about the chapter ending on the mission and how it feels about the pacing (and the relative shortness) has me thinking maybe I should have merged this with the second chapter (which introduces the girl), all of which is part of the challenge of writing such short chapters and making the pacing happen.

Forgot I even used the first 2; guess I'll have to resort to the tactic I've seen a lot of anime use (ie, "search engine Woogle"). Honda's going to be trickier because I used that in several spots, so that'll take longer for me to find all locations and fix.

I did confirm locations were OK. I actually changed the noodle shop's name (originally did use a real shop's name) to "Hana" (which I hope isn't a real name by sheer happenstance). "Akihabara Electric Town" I would have thought should have been acceptable, though I'm guessing you're pointing at "Cat Cafe Mocha" (which yes, is a real place), which I guess I can come up with something else.
