What an incredible opening chapter. The ethereal, cinematic void scene at the start immediately pulled me in, and the way it set up the contrast between Itsuki and Sayaka, “an open heart and a guarded one”, was such a strong foundation for what’s to come.
I loved the emotional realism here. Sayaka’s pain felt real…. her despair, the way she shut down, and her belief that her life has no value… it was heartbreaking. I genuinely just want her to be okay. It’s rare to see that level of vulnerability handled so well in isekai.
And then there’s Itsuki …. what a standout protagonist. A kind, open-hearted hero “from the very start” is so refreshing in this genre. He’s compassionate without being naive, and he absolutely refuses to abandon someone who’s hurting. His quiet strength and empathy really shine here. That final sprint toward danger, capped with “Sorry! That’s just not my style!”... Love, love!
Beautifully written, emotionally grounded, and already setting up a story that feels like it’s about more than just adventure. I'm fully in.
