Ahhhh, and there it is. I imagine the budget on Mahatona surveillance, policing, and counter-intelligence must be nuts given how how many ways a country-wide conspiracy has to go belly up. Also Braith has learned the almighty skill of escaping social situations with Power Words "My wife is tired." We love to see it.

Masterful stuff here: the reader is so focused on the Yumi needing pants situation that we never even think about how badly she and Braith could use some ear protection. Those two are going to be deaf before long firing off all those bullets.

On a serious note, the tension here is *chef's kiss* and there's a great conflict of morals being set up with Yumie whom the state already has an interest in controlling.
