I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of works starting in media res. To me, it often shows a lack of faith in the strength of the character writing to not just carry the work through the beginning to the action and conflict, but make the viewers actively invested in it as well.
Thought that’s just my preference, and it’s not like there aren’t great stories that start out in the middle of the action without any build-up to it.
I would say I’m slightly concerned with how the event of Maribell just murdering the city guards and leveling a city block is brushed by. Like, the guards were pieces of shit, so no remorse for them. But there were civilians too, even if they were fleeing, and none of them were killed by her attack, it’s not like she could be certain of that.
But I believe a character killing for the first time in a narrative should have some meaning and weight behind it. If they show no remorse, that could indicate someone who either feels no inherent value of life, or maybe somebody who is just familiar with death, and has caused it before.
I think your chapter does well to establish the things we can expect to see going forward though. Magic, action, witch hunts, with a sprinkle of ecchi and humor to lighten things up.
