Chapter 0:

Prologue

Under The Dome is Woe

Black sand. It looks like dirt, but it’s not to be mistaken. The charred grains are all that remain in the land. It’s all that remains of anywhere as far as the eye can see since the last world war. Children used to play here. Families used to gather for meals. People used to sing songs when the snow fell. Before the rumbling flash. Before the Burning Pillar War. Before the countries’ leaders were consumed by hatred. Now all the land is scorched.

In the year 2050, humanity had its last war. There were so many casualties that burnt ash from flesh fell from the sky. Nuclear explosions caused people to flee from heavily populated areas. Brother fought against brother, and during this time, everything was about survival. Foreseeing a terrible future, the company known as ViGen built the “ViaChip.” With this technology, a person could save their consciousness on a single computer chip. The company stored them in an underground quantum server, in the hopes of preserving humanity. People traveled far and wide to them for help. They were like a beam of hope—the hope that you could survive until it was all over.

They built a large domed city around it, and as the world outside fell apart, they thrived. Now the last of humanity lives in the utopia of Gen City, a place where vehicles fly, and technology becomes more advanced by the day. There is no starvation, no diseases. As long as you have a ViaChip, anything you want is a dream away. However, all good things are built on trails of suffering.

If you are unfortunate enough not to have a ViaChip, you are a lowly Error—a worker struggling to reach the new normality of immortality. In this new utopia, a question still remains. Tell me, observer: Is it possible to digitize a human soul?
