Ubakawa is an ordinary teen—until his best friend Kojima becomes a full-blown harem protagonist three weeks into school, dragging Ubakawa into nonstop romantic chaos! Frustrated, he resolves to have an honest talk with Kojima—only to end up stealing one of his heroines!
Every attempt to have a heart-to-heart with Kojima, Ubakawa gets dragged into solving a heroine’s crisis instead—and by the time the dust settles, he’s accidentally stolen their heart! From a volatile childhood friend to a sociophobic bookworm to a superhuman tomboy, it just never ends!
Then there’s the most troublesome heroine of all—Shinomiya, the school prince. Routinely teasing and sabotaging him, yet the sole girl impervious to the madness, he can’t decide if she’s his biggest headache or the only one who truly gets him.
All he knows is this—no matter how many event flags he trips or routes he hijacks, he won’t rest until he’s finally talked to Kojima and sorted out this mess of emotions once and for all!
I've always wanted to see a school harem anime series but from the meta perspective of the best friend, yet sadly nobody ever made one. Then I saw the Spring 2026 MAL x Honeyfeed Writing Contest and decided to attempt a novelization of the concept, I hope it's enjoyable!
If I were fortunate enough to actually place in the competition and be afforded the opportunity, I'd absolutely love to turn this into a full series. I have a complete nine novel story outlined in extensive detail, covering 30 heroines of various classic harem archetypes, as well as delving far deeper into the love polygon between Ubakawa, Kojima, Shinomiya, and Yuki. Beyond that, if the series were successful, I do have ideas for where it could go their final two years of high school, as well as for a reverse harem spin-off following his equally cursed little sister.
On a side note, the Japanese title I had planned is 親友とただ一緒に過ごしたいだけなのに、なぜか彼のヒロインたちが俺に惚れていく！aka 親友 ♡ 恋 ♡ 奪, which the four leads' names reference.
