YESSS LETS FUCKING GOOOOO KOYOMI I LOVE YOU BRUDDAH 🫶🏻 I’ve waiting for this man it’s been a long time coming but finally…
Now that I cooled off a bit time for za review:
First of all, the story setting really pulled me in, with all the domes, the high tech the power struggles in the government the special forces everything kept me interested up until the end 🙏🏻 I can see you’ve put great thought into creating a world like that, and actually trying your hardest to flesh it out in a way that the reader can actually feel every single detail. For me the highlight was the extensive amount of twists and turns in the story, the revelations and how they impacted the mental state of the characters.
As for the characters themselves, I can say that despite the fact that we didn’t get their descriptions right from the get-go, the whole former 10th squad was a bunch of really lively characters that played well off each other. I also appreciated the fact that even the villains got some background and different personalities, which made the story and fight scenes feel all the more alive and interesting. Now for the characters I myself found really really interesting and I thought deserve a mention:
Shinji: although I’ve seen many protagonists that are revenge-hungry (have wrote and plan on writing some myself) I can say you handled Shinji very well. Yes, he was consumed by hatred, and yes he went to the extreme at times, but he never stopped caring for his friends. During the end, and with the help of the love interest he matured into a better person, and during that scene with the blossom petals, felt like he was finally able to enjoy the little things in life. You did a great job on writing a badass, powerful and at the end compassionate protagonist 💪🏻
Rin: I’m gonna call her Rin for now but yeah let’s get on with it 😅 Rin appeared to be just another squad member during the early chapters, but she was fleshed into the main main cast later on, by giving us an interlude of her past, and some parts where SHE is the narrator. I believe that gave the reader the chance to step into her shoes, and bond + sympathise with her more than the rest of the members. She too had great character development through to the end, where she finally decided to embrace her past, and not be ashamed of it. The fact she felt guilty about it was eating away at her throughout the novel and the fact she could put those feelings to rest was a great turning point for her. You handled that smoothly too 🫶🏻
Shinji Father/ Akira Takahashi: The fact that he was revealed to be an enemy was quite a shock to me, if I’m being honest. I thought he was a good scientist, that was held either captive or was already killed. The fact that he was not only alive, and free but an enemy to boot, was a big blow for Shinji in my opinion that eventually made him stronger. All in all, he’s actually an incredibly interesting character that I’m keen on learning more of. And he’s also badass to boot 😎 like father like son I guess 😩
For me these were the standout character, although the rest of the squad was really fun to read too. An honourable mention would be Shuna, who I found second best girl (along with Ai-chan) because she was always energetic, funny and probably the heart of the group when it came to fun times.
The commander was also a great character, and a parent figure for Shinji that truly seemed to care dearly about his soldiers, even though he didn’t let it show.
All in all, your book had many memorable points, like the kissing scene in the rain, the amazing fight scenes with the three commanders, and finally that beautiful final moment in this chapter right here. You’ve pulled off a great story, that I thoroughly enjoyed and I have to say, in all honesty I’m kinda sad it ended. I’m hoping one day you will continue this book, and I’ll be sure to be here for it. Sorry for being late on reading it, but from me, congratulations Koyomi! You did a great job and I can’t wait to read your future works 😁
