The long awaited Donut review 😤 Let’s go! Really I understand all of your points and some I am guilty of already having either a hunch or knowing outright I needed to do better 😅 I also believe it’s not my strongest writing material too, but it did gave me a chance to learn some new things along the way 💪🏻 Some points might have been a step back, and believe me I remember the “if you can cut it and it doesn’t change the plot do it” thing, and always keep it with me when writing 🧐 Thing is I’m still struggling to do it, and as funny as it sounds I cut a TON of stuff during the last arc, and some in betweens that tampered with the initial 1500 chapter word count. Truth is I tend to overexpand and I’m working on it 😅 Let’s see how Soul Nemesis goes tho, cause it will be a challenge to only give the “juice” as one would say. In another sense, at least in my writing I don’t particularly believe that every story needs to have only “to the point” writing. I appreciate when I see it, but SoL is a kind of genre that tends to give too much info in and of by itself. Maybe I’m taking the easy way out with this, and truth be told Blackmail did overexpand, but at the same time had the last arc not been what it is, half the cast wouldn’t have been fleshed out as much 😅 Like you said you sacrificed the club members development a bit with your story 👍 So I chose to go the long route instead. Could it have been written in another way? Sure. Would I wrack my brains over getting the most optimal super duper version of Blackmail? Probably not. I think it’s already okay as it is, save for a few parts I’d change myself if I had more time. Maybe everything doesn’t have to be the most optimal, compact version of itself.
Nevertheless, I’ll take all those points to heart cause I believe I should improve and try to deliver a nicer experience in future works!
I really appreciate the reviews that make me question my thought process and as much as this break is needed, I think it’s become somewhat more necessary. I don’t believe I’ll come back a different person, but through writing I may develop the sense I’d like to see things differently! So all in all, Donut, thanks for taking the time to write this review, and thank you so much for reading and helping me improve! I appreciate you a lot I hope you know that! ❤️
