You hit the nail! The 20th century has a huge hand in dystopian fiction across the board, especially on stories like 1984. As someone who's studied history in school, I think its important that the messages these stories carry reach every generation going forward, keeping them cautions of what can happen if things go to far. That's one of the reasons I originally started writing this story, to try and spread the message a little further.

It's interesting that you bring up the MC's gender!

So, as you may have noticed, I didn't explicitly use any descriptors to reveal that by this point. This was sorta done intentionally to let people mostly project themselves (or whoever they wanted) onto the character. However, there will be some hints in later chapters as to the canon gender.

Originally, this story was supposed to be a 'choose your own adventure' sort of thing, which would have made it second person, but I scrapped that while still salvaging some of the character concept.
