You're correct! Realistically, on the scale that they're seeing in the story it definitely wouldn't be such a quick change to the population. I was sorta hoping to suspend that disbelief a little and dip into more fictional realms, but if it's being brought up as unrealistic, that clearly didn’t work. I'll need to look into strengthening/developing the cause more.
Here's a revision: The pill has two functions. It both suppresses emotions in the individual, and potentially alters the chemistry of their offspring. Rather than emotions being bred out as an unused feature, it would be forced out of the child potentially either before or during pregnancy due to a reaction to the medication. (I'm also not opposed to the idea that the pill has a hand in enhancing their intelligence, but that's a different topic)
Ekko and any previous generations (even some of the other children part of Ko’s generation) failed to have the same alterations take place. Which required the government to tweak the formula until they got what they wanted. Since a significant amount of special children exist, the next part of their plan can commence.
Does this sound better, or does it suffer a similar inaccuracy?
