I'm feeling some discrepancies between what I was led to believe and assume (by that, I mean the worldbuilding that was explained early on), and the events and situations unfolding. My concern with this is that it may weaken/lessen the 'naturality' of the plot events (like, it may make things sound more forced).
A really strong idea that the first chapter left me with was that of 'Isolation'. 'Helplessness'. There's hardly people around anymore, and this makes things a lot harder. But Gabe is encountering A LOT of people, which breaks this first impression of what was presented to me (or at least, of what I understood from what was given).
Another thing that bothered me somewhat was how unorganized this cult is. If powers are normal, and everyone is aware they exist and that practically everyone has one, wouldn't they check (or at least force the truth out) of the people they will kill? If they ARE this unorganized and dumb, it would be interesting to hint at it early on or explain this as soon as possible, in my opinion.
Gabe is starting to take a bit more shape to me, in the form of a more carefree, 'don't-think-things-through' kinda guy. He is not competent, he is nor smart, he basically relies on sheer luck and others' skills—which is completely valid. My only concern going forward is the 'plot armor', and that feeling of 'Things Happen 'cuz Plot' (which is the same regarding the 'naturality').

Also, wondering if that girl really died and if it has to do with the Seraphin-Killing thing.
