I think I enjoyed this chapter the most, built up some great tension and leaves you wondering. Ironically, what intrigued me the most was perhaps the "smallest" part of this - the guards ratting out their leader just for a few coins. If this is a hint at Kael's inferiors secretly holding hatred and wanting to take him out, I believe you sprinkled that in very efficiently.

I'm still interested in this story, but if I may be honest, I couldn't help but feel this chapter contained a lot of filler. I appreciate the supposed intent, an exploration of Alice's school life mixed in with some lore. But I do wonder how much of this content was necessary to be descriptive about to paint this picture, or how much complements the plot by moving it forward. I did think it was nice seeing Alice's interactions as it shows personalities and establishes relationship dynamics, but again, some scenes seemed a bit too stretched out (specifically Alice's conversation with Pippa).

Don't mean to be harsh - as I said, I'm still intrigued by what you have going on here, but I did think this was worth mentioning.

Good point on what you said about the worldbuilding, I thought the same! But lacked ideas at the time. I also like your point about the merchant, but it wasn't my intention to make him *that* bad (since he's still trying to have a running business). Gwen's anger has more to do with the fact the necklace belonged to her parents and not the merchant's actions alone. Thank you again for reading! \ (^o^) /

I don't know why, but my dumb brain first thought Irina full on assaulted the president - then it was revealed his shoulder was gone and I was like OH SNAP. 🤣

This was a better chapter, I feel the flow and tension built had nice improvement. I enjoyed the contrast between Ken's inner turmoil and his daughters' obliviousness the most. It is very effectively depicted and gives us some insights into these characters' personalities. Nice work, wanting to read more

The plot is interesting so far, I like it. The concept of a family struggling together through an imminent disaster is also very bittersweet for me in a good way. (Though one of the things I would suggest is to clear out some repetition - you mention he is pacing his office three times within a short segment.)

I'm really loving your prose, especially with how you create the setting and implement the diversity of the world. I do also think too many characters were introduced this chapter, but it didn't prevent it from being an enjoyable read.

There is one thing I just can't get over though - Alice is 8-years-old, but this is very difficult to believe. Everything about her comes off as being much older. The narration especially, as much as I adore your style, doesn't really convey that someone this young is speaking. Stories do sometimes require suspension of belief, but this is jarring for me. Overall though, this chapter was still a nice and interesting read.
