You've absolutely nailed the atmosphere and setting for this world. It's still beating, still going, but suffocating—literally. The research you likely put into this to make it more realistic too just really helps ground everything and make it feel more real. (Like, phytoplankton was going to be my first thought when it came to oxygen-producers in the world, so knowing they too were dying just hit the point across how disastrous this is)
