Not to repeat what Sino has said, but the intro does feel like it doesn't really connect into the rest of the story. If it's to set the atmosphere, it's kinda overshadowed by the descriptions we are given once the MC wakes up in the room, which does a better job as a setup in my opinion. If it's to be creepy, then it kinda fulfills the purpose, but it still kinda disjointed from the rest of the story. If it's some subtle symbolism or metaphor, then I'm unable to get it even in my second read(which could be a 'me' problem, idk).
I like the part about the MC not being the rebellious kind, likely an overworked office guy, his wife thus calling him "little mollusc" and all that resulting in him going "I'mma do the opposite of what you say just cause this time I can."
