Good bit of set up! I actually really like the pacing of the gun inside the box inside the warehouse, and then all the pieces of the gun being slid together - It kinda gives a sense of cohesion with the sub plot, a rebellion, hidden, many disperate pieces coming together to form something quaint but deadly and versitile. Good stuff

This is quite an effective couple of opening chapters. Good sense of voice for protag and theres a nice constrast of how the salary lifestyle and the rural fantasy village are full of unfairness.

I also quite like the 'showman' being, very efficently characterised.
