So I actually went on to re-read because last time, I read way too quickly. And in reality, this chapter is really, really more interesting than at first thought – especially more so in terms of lore.
Here, you showcase the Magic of your world – with the wands, the ranks system, the scholarly thoughts – but more importantly the Monsters and how they are brought upon the world. From lingering attachments give way to a newfound magical signature – a bit like a Hollow from Bleach.
What's more, you really display well the professional relationship between Hoshino and Hazama – for sure, they joke between themselves but they also know when to take things seriously. It's a good balance.
And finally, you actually created a somewhat tense atmosphere in this chapter – from the investigation, to Hoshino's fear (bladder notably, ahah), to at last the Monster appearing. It's tense, yet you succeed in making it fun from your descriptions – there's always a sense of humour underneath. As such, we the readers, are always reassured even if bad things happen : P
And ahah, yeah for sure, the vibes feel very JJK. I'm gonna wonder what kind of cursed objects we're gonna see next. Maybe a cursed finger? Hope it wasn't put to too much use inside, heh.
