this is genuinely amazing. Might be the best opening I've read out of every single entry. Each paragraph switching scenes and tones to fit each character's situation AND keeping the readers attention by putting scenes of tension in between the characterization is so well made. It isn't just the structure that's parallel either, but the characters situations. Countdown at the end showed this perfectly too. A countdown for tension, holding pieces of the characters in them, just as the rest of the chapter did.
