I'm actually a little amazed at how much I grew to like Baltz. Originally I just needed someone who was an asshole to Chista. But then I asked why he was, and I realized it wasn't hatred. He was confused as to why she kept trying after failure when he gave up. In a weird way, he respected her, and that changed how I wrote him. Now that he's alone, I think Chista might actually want to help him.
