Avii is just a guy doing his best. Though his best isn't much appreciated. Yeah, Ostave is a mixed bag!
Decades of abuse and torture have left him mindful, if nothing else. Avii has evolved. Even without his MULE, he still has PLOT armour.
It is definitely sad that Marx is considered a half-decent guy, lol. He really had a chance at doing something great, but there is no way he's going to get ahead in life now.

This is definitely an ancient magic. Not really understood or easily harnessed by everyone. Oh, you know, if I could get away with making this sci-fi, I would, lol. But I won't lead you on with this, so no spaceship. At most, arcane-powered zeppelins.
Thank you for saying so! Yeah, they've got a limited amount of everything. I imagine the majority of the world lacks these items, though we see a lot of them over the course of the story because of our forced perspective on war and the front lines. So beyond military application, you don't see much magic, arcanotech, or the Gods. But here, where it can make the difference in winning a war, anyone capable of harnessing those abilities is thrust into combat.
I'm really channelling my early writing style for this one. I wanted to hit that real gritty, edgy feel with every chapter. It's been so much fun to write something outside my usual.

Oh, it only gets worse! Avii's life is that of a tragic hero, with significantly more emphasis on the tragic part. And you raise a good question about what they unlocked under that dungeon. You're going to have to read 'moria' to find out!
Yeah, those mines are definitely dangerous and claustrophobic, Jen! The magic of this world is definitely used for more practical applications. No lighthearted whimsy in arcana allowed here!

Karla wants so bad to be forgiven and accepted. She seems so eager to do anything and everything possible to make amends for her past. It’s to a point that I wonder if it isn’t them she needs to be forgiven by. I feel like she needs to forgive herself to be able to move on.
