I was expecting Karen Stein to be more of a...Karen.

Now I'm getting Ikari Gendou vibes. Misato bringing Shinji to him, and the first thing his dad tells him is, "get into the Eva." Now it's Shizuka being told by her dad to pilot a mecha. Freya. Of course the Norse mythology, Freya is the goddess of love and fertility. Though she's also associated with war, for some reason!

At least Shizuka has become less whiny and spoilt now. The mercenaries are right, she would have died with the village if it weren't for them. Still, I had the same reaction as Edgar, like, who...? Is this really the same Shizuka?

Edgar has a point. Shizuka is lucky she can still say that about her dad. Lots of people have lost their parents. At least she still has a dad. And don't jump out of the truck, sis, you'll hurt yourself. Not worth the injury just to run away again. Especially after your village got destroyed.

Also, I thought she would be more shell-shocked after seeing her village get devastated and losing everyone. She's still too fiesty for someone who just witnessed a massacre.
