Basically, when Diane passed away, she realized something was amiss, so she cast a spell to attach fragments of her soul to Claude...ahem, I mean Leon...no, I mean Damien! And Athanasia. Whoops...Yumiella. No, wait. Lumiere. To watch over them.

It's also a trope or cliche in most otomeand even many fantasy stories, ha ha. Deceased parent somehow staying inside the protagonist's mindscape to watch over them.
