I got a very bad review on Royal Road at 2/5 from someone with a userename I dare you not to google. Since I can't reply to the review itself I will write my responses here.
- No quotation marks: Well, yeah. I am no native speaker and no one during my English education emphasized that quotations should be used. I went with grammar rules for my native language, which I was familiar with. Might have been a mistake, but no readers so far complained. Okay. Rewriting it according to "quotation" grammar rules will take considerable time. The publication speed will thus slow down, but in a few chapters there will be only quotation marks. On the side note the rules reagarding quotation marks are even messier than about my dashes. 'Tis but a nightmare!
- "some parts of the story make me wince (chapter 8's slavery stuff).": well slavery is a thing you should be wincing about. Nothing to do about that. Protagonist is also weirded out.
- "Spell names and classes are chuunibyou, too.": intended. That is what you get when your world gets influenced with a huge number of rather powerful chunnis!
- General complaints about bad quality of this work: I even advertised my fiction is bad. And no one so far is paying for it a cent. So well, I could stop writing or mister S.D. could stop reading. My writing might improve with time. Your generic advice is not really useful as I am already doing that. Eh.
