Wow, I really liked your short story! It's a really great idea to interpret the call of death as messages from the deceased friends of the protagonist, who keep calling them. I think it feels very real when someone who is the lone survivor of a tragic accident (no matter what accident this might have been), that they feel a certain calling and question why they have to keep living on alone. This senselessness has been captured really beautifully in this story!
I also like that Eros is not portrayed as the gorgeous beauty, like Thanatos was in the original story. I feel like it's the love you would like to have vs. the one actually made for you 😊
Only thing is that the message of "life is ugly, but keep on living" feels a tiny bit too direct/on the nose. Like you don't have to state it so directly for the message to have it's impact. I know it's a hard balance (I'm also struggling with currently in my edits 😅), but I think it could be a bit more subtle there.
Apart from that, I think you executed a really nice idea very well! So a lot of success for the contest! I'm crossing my fingers for you! 😊❤️
