That's what I call, a day well spent. As soon as I started reading this morning again (in class *cough*) I knew I had to go through all of it today. I honestly loved it from beginning to end. I actually feel quite sad that it's over, I will miss those rascals too much 😭😭😭 they all became such a nice group through the course of this story, and the couples made so much sense it's actually so rewarding to read... Without further ado, Im gonna give you a review, because like any other work, I think it deserves one (and especially a work like this 🥳)
Here goes:
Story and setting:
The story is refreshing, chaotic and the whole premise feels so engaging you just don't know which way it will go. One moment you're thinking everyone will outsmart the other and steal the target’s heart the other you're thinking about love between rivals, a twist happens and it gives you a run for your money and at the end we get an amazingly wholesome ending that might or might not have made me tear up. The setting is rather simple, with the camp and all but what I would like to point out is how some fine details give off the vibe of the story (Lovecraft surname, Arrow Heart High) and even the names fitted the characters to a T, with the Japanese-american blend.
Characters:
Uff this is gonna be lengthy so sit down please...
Ren: Ren started out as the big brain of the group. Calculating and composed with only one goal in mind. Protect Emma. But throughout the course of the story, we saw him go through different phases. He came closer to Adam, and the others, and doubted himself more than once. But even through all that, he found the right answer. He stayed true to his feelings through to the end, even if it meant laying down his life. Along the way he came to appreciate the new friends he made, and yes, he even saw eye to eye with the drama princess (Rika’s words not mine) AKA Julius. Also he confessed. Highlight of the story. Would cry again.
Emma!: you may ask why there's an exclamation mark here... And I will reply because it's EMMA! Overall she was the MVP of the story for me. No matter what, she was always a bundle of endless energy that just kept making the story even more interesting and fun. She never really doubted anyone, and her sincerity made her so loveable, I doubt a single soul in the group could dislike her. She was also the one who pulled Adam out of the hole he dug himself into, and no matter what, she was never one to hold grudges. She was just a bright, cheerful girl, the kind this world needs more of. And she's also my waifu. Yes, indeed.
Rika: despite her whole dude bro thing she had going on, and the way she tried to mask her insecurities with it, she realized she could be herself and not be judged for what she had done. Or better, be able to forgive herself, for not believing in her charm. Despite that, it's safe to say she found her match with the “princess” 😂 what I would like to add is that her dialogue was absolutely hilarious each and every time she said anything 😂 Rika is a little devil rascal but we love her, and no Cupid no devil angel pun intended.
Julius: I have to say I didn't really like him at first. Crucify me, I mean he was rather unlikeable and I'm sure it was on purpose. Yet he grew on me as I kept on reading, and I felt for him, even though his painful past was partly his fault. I'm just glad he could forgive himself too, and found a girl like Rika... Honestly, who wouldn't want a girl like Rika?
Yusei: my boy. I have a thing for delinquent characters, no homo. Yet Yusei was more than that. He masked his insecurities behind his tough facade, and was afraid to open up to anyone. It was really refreshing to see him talk with Airi about all that stuff, and the way his softer side took over.
Airi: Ojou-sama girl with a twist. Her mannerims, and the way she carried herself gave off a weird feeling at first, but after getting to know her more, she just became more likeable by each chapter. I can respect a person who tries hard for their significant other, even if it's extreme. If Yusei wouldn't, then I would marry you girl. Head up, you dropped this 👑
Adam: His character was mysterious, yet at the end you could see how pained he was for not being loved and not having friends. It was truly sad to see him reach a breaking point, and I'm sure Agatha will pull out the wholesome Adam we all know and love. All hail the romance between them!
Agatha: Honestly? She was the silent MVP too. She was adorable through and through, and she was the glue that sometimes kept people together, especially during the end. Adam is a lucky guy 🥳
Cupid: wholesome. Just wholesome. He started out as this grand master of a death game, yet he just wanted for his cupils to find love and understand what it means. He truly cared about them, and it showed in every dialogue if you look back. But man, speaking of dialogues... How is his dialogue always so hilarious? 😂 I swear I was laughing every time he appeared 😂 Makech comedy 🤝
Okay now that we’re done with that, I want to congratulate you Makech for this amazing story! 🥳 it was an absolute pleasure to read and sorry that I didn't finish it earlier 😌🤝 you have an amazing talent in telling stories, and especially your dialogue, makes all the characters come alive in the best way possible. At first I was hesitant to see that the whole story would take part in only 3 days, but their story was told in such a way, I honestly see no loose ends. It captivated me, and I have to say, despite us being rivals (not really, I mean my chances of progression are slim) in the HF contest, I would vote for Cupid’s Blame over my story. It was just THAT good 😌 thank you for writing, I cant wait to read your future endeavors 😎
