Yeah, Kirk is for sure the most exaggerated character of the whole cast, and him picking on an old lady was probably taking it a little off the rails. I wanted another comedy scene that would mirror Seth’s introduction from the first chapter, and I wanted to show an old lady as a callback to something Roscoe says back then as well. Again this goes back to whether I want this to be a more realistic story or an anime, which I really just can’t say for sure. Part of me wants to shoot for that weird space in the middle, and I wonder if pursuing that more could lead to something or if it’s just holding me back when a more consistent tone could keep people immersed. I have a desire to write both, but I could always grant that wish by doing two different stories. I’ll probably try experimenting with all of that in future projects. I’m glad you liked our little adventure with this odd three-man cast that we really don’t see team up outside of this chapter. They play off each other pretty well I think despite me never really intending them to get together until I wrote this part. In all honesty, this isn’t my favorite part of the chapter, though, and as a writer, having Roscoe go job-hunting mostly felt like a neccesity I had to get out of the way, so I was worried readers might not have as much fun with it. But I did enjoy writing all their character interactions, and it seems like people quite enjoy reading them. But still, the highlight of this chapter for me was getting to write that ending. I won’t spoil anything for you since it’s already almost over, but this part leads directly into the next chapter, marking one of the few times a new chapter isn’t a new day. Enjoy!
