Aoko is a girl, correct. She was first introduced in chapter 4.
This isn't a flashback per-se, but I can easily see how it could be interpreted as that. I'm sorry that it's confusing, and I was honestly on the fence about doing this, so it looks like I took a gamble and lost 😅
For spoiler-related reasons, I can't say exactly what this is, but it should be fairly apparent by the next chapter and just entirely spelled out in the chapter after that.
However! This has given me a lot of insight in how to do these sorts of transitions, so I probably should've given the previous chapter's ending way more thought beforehand. Thank you very much for your feedback!
