yep. their entire story has been about impermanence. no matter how much we cherish the blossoms in the spring, they will always fade. I think there’s a tragic beauty to cherishing things that don’t last, but yes this is especially sad.

thank you! I love both stories equally for different reason, and view them as companions, so I’m grateful to have either make it. objectively speaking I do think Songstress is the better novel as a whole, so I’m happy it won. I look forward to you reading it! and yes I loved the idea of memories and wisdom being currency. if maji can create realities to their whim, basic needs would likely be met. so anything beyond that would simply be for personal development. or… that’s how it started…
I really enjoy your prose for the moments between dialogue. you describe actions and detail very nicely.
I’m intrigued to learn about Yuame’s backstory. I like their complex melancholy.
lovely description of the rain and clouds. good work, friend!

ohhhhhhhhh get ready. in some ways the saddest thing I’ve ever written.
there are so many moments through the story where I imagined even just those opening few seconds of A Cold Memory playing. even from the beginning when Hazuki first leaves before every thing falls apart. he looks back and sees her standing alone in the dusk light. that image definitely deserves that song.
also, you’re coming up to the most important chapters. especially The Tragedy of The Girl At the Plum Blossom, and Letting Go of Tommorow. if you’re curious, Naoe’s theme is A Cold Memory by Owsey. Hazuki’s theme is Landing in the Dark by Aaron Martin. And the main theme/theme of the tree is My Love by Kisnou!
that’s exactly what it’s referencing. ☺️
yep Hazuki and Naoe needed support from others to face what is to come. Arthur and Sayane are delightful “older sibling” vibes.

I wrote it thinking he would do like so many and just bury it and move forward. very Shikata ga nai mentality even at his own detriment. it’ll catch up to him in some ways down the road.
I really enjoyed writing the build of their relationship.
I’ll give a hint that neither hurts one another beyond what they ask one another to do…

also, regarding Can-Mo, I forget if we talked about it, but I wanted the “tentacle monster” character to be basically the opposite of the hentai trope. he doesn’t rip clothes off, he dresses our heroine. he doesn’t violate, he’s gentle and compassionate.
I could totally see that. I think Mulan’s singing is a good reference point for much of Sayane: uncertain, somber at first, then building in confidence.
