It’s interesting seeing how Fury’s perspective of the world has changed. What use to be a constant tactical observation has gradually shifted. Noticing the beautiful sunrise reflecting off the building. Seeing a collapsed school and wondering if everyone got out. Only at the end does she mention that the enemy got what they deserved. It shows that while it’s not gone, it’s now a small piece of the puzzle that is her. There is also a greater concern for those around her which is a nice addition. She has truly shifted from wanting to do the job to wanting to make the world a better place. Great job slowly revealing this to the reader!

I really enjoyed this wholesome moment. While it isn’t clearly stated, you give lots of clues that the delivery of the gift with two hands has some deeper meaning. It’s like giving a romantic gift vs a gift to a friend. I like these shy moments of Mai mixed with the awkward moments of Fury. I can only imagine in Mais mind she is dealing with the same emotions but reveals them on her face differently because of the cultural differences. It is great and I love that this little found family is getting so close!

I love these little heartfelt moments. I find myself intrigued and curious about the customs and what the meaning could be behind offering with both haves in comparison to one.

It’s also great saying Fury use the vehicle for good. What was once a symbol of false hope and a potential for failed unity now seems to stick with her. She finds pride in it. Like her pride as a soldier is now transitioned into pride as a representative for peace. I can’t help but think of the beauty in that. How many soldiers fight for peace only to wind up broken at the end. It make me wonder if she fought for peace once. Or if it was only for hate or survival. It’s nice seeing her transitioning back.

I can already feel the transition in the story. There is a lot of healing and it is reflected very well in the way the narrative flows. It’s interesting how the same ways that Fury use to unwind from pain and anxiety don’t work for excitement and happiness. It is a beautiful tell that something has changed in her. And that subtle moment between her and Mai was especially special when there was the added note that even the tea was better. It’s nice to see her healing. And her superiors support during this process.

This was so beautifully written. I was able to feel the pain in my heart as the main character spoke. You have an amazing way with words that least to such vivid imagery and deep sense of pain. Not a failure. Not bad or weak. But broken. A honest life of working and being a member of society only to be ripped away. Then, too weak to continue. To push forward. This is such a powerful start! I look forward to reading more! ❤️

I’m so happy with this chapter and proud of Fury moving past her anxiety and making that move. It’s such a tender moment and shows great strength on her side, a strength that is different than what it takes to be a soldier, but still so important when looking to heal after the war. The subtle lore drop of Mai’s past is wonderful and built that bit of tension but also have something in return for Fury’s bravery. Like I had hoped, I can see the fog of war—for lack of a better term—clearing from both of their minds and the clarity of reality coming into focus. Absolutely wonderful!

You’ve done a great job at showing the transition of a war hardened soldier to a noble advocate of unity. Sure, Fury hasnt gotten there yet, but you can see the thoughts infiltrating her mind like the roots of a seed. Sooner or later there will come a moment (I suspect) where there will be a realization that these people are her family. And that family is an idea that transcends blood shared and blood spilled on the battlefield. I’m looking forward to seeing how this progresses!

This was a great short story! You hit so many points across it in such a short span. Hope, despair, frustration, love. I love the full circle moment and how you tie in both the middle of the piece and the end to the youthful dream of the main character. There’s some great foreshadowing with the idols tension and obvious withdrawal. Fantastic short with potential to be expanded to a nice love story. Would have been a great SR entry!

I loved the moment of noticing the ribbon. That small step forward that seems so small but speaks volumes to the healing. Sure it may seem like a sense of apathy towards it, but it’s not hate or disgust which speaks volumes to Fury’s progress throughout the narrative. The white of the bow, a sense of peace and purity, and the way she has begun to help others instead of hurt. It’s amazing. I’m loving to see her progress forward even though she can’t yet see it. And then the discussion of how the world had moved on! Perfect foreshadowing, I hope, of her making her own strides to move on and potentially marry. It would be nice to see her as more than just a follower of peace but also a symbol of uniting the worlds.

The moment between Fury and Mai was cute, I can see the subtle relationship building occurring. It makes me wonder if the cringe of unity is not only because of the war that she fought but also because of her own hidden compassion. I’ve gotten a lot of Fury’s perspective during the war, but it makes me wonder if the war had never occurred how would she had been. Would be have been loving and compassionate from the beginning? She seems, albeit hesitantly, to be a very compassionate figure. I’m interested to see how her personality will continue to adapt to this new world.

I love the contrast you give between the time of war and peace. You really handle it well, showing how quickly nations push that everything is over and it’s up to the people to move forward. But hate and prejudice don’t just disappear over night. Things take time and when you live for so long believing one thing, it will take more than an apartment, rations, and a can-do attitude to change that.

I did really love the idea of a board game from another world being unnecessarily simplistic but complex. Hilarious little addition that was wonderful to see.

I also loved the small little bit of how much calmer Fury get after being around them. A nice touch to show the change occurring.
