Do keep in mind that this is 1 volume, 1 arc LOL I can't explain everything that happens especially since this story is admittedly convoluted at where it's at xD If anything, I feel like this arc was extremely rushed to explain *some* things for the sake of unraveling, but if I haven't done so I feel like some people will remain confused or take this as a simple monster hunting story than a human/monster vs government corruption kind lmao
The Dr was aiming to rid humanity of diseases and mental illness; stated via Runo's info dump, in a messed up sense the Dr did succeed by warping humanity's genes into powerful monsters (and in the case of Dolly and Netty, they became androids which if you think about it, is like having a stronger body than one with disabilities) Basically the moral of it is just don't mess with nature, and that's what the Dr did. Created a bunch of consequential effects where ppl are now reborn as monsters. It's also a bit of a metaphor that humans are monsters, we destroy each other every day.
Search up Psychogenic Amnesia ; ) It is very possible albeit rare, for a person to have a psychological trauma be so severe it erases/suppresses memories of one's past and identity. That was the point I wanted to show with Dolly and Netty especially since they were right there when the tragedy happened. Now whether my writing skills successfully did so or failed to execute is another topic lmao
Being that they are androids now, the gem represents that lock holding onto memory fragments that remain. The Dr did not want Dolly to destroy it at first because *I guess future spoilers* he wanted Dolly to retrieve more information about the realms as he has to remain low with his research after causing a global catastrophe, but he also purposely built Dolly to withstand realm implosions in the case that he decides that aren't meant to be maintained by the government (Headquarters). I don't want to say anything else lol but that's that x)
Anywho, here's to hope the story concept gets picked up so more can be fleshed out/rewritten and or address some of the remaining lingering questions!
