Madoka Magica was one of my inspirations! ^w^ So I'm really happy to hear that!
As for the beginning of the story, it was vague and confusing on purpose. Along with Madoka Magica as an inspiration, Pandora Hearts was probably the biggest one I got inspired from since that's my favorite manga. I like telling stories in a similar way called "drip-feeding", so instructions not being clear and Dolly being unclear is part of it. The worldbuilding was also left vague on purpose until Dolly's experience throughout the story unravels everything. Alas I can also blame my limited skills on prose and direction, which could've made the flow a little off for this chapter (I'm not confident in my writing skills on Chapters 1 and 2 yet lmao)
Regardless, the plot of the story is complexed; this volume is more experimental and simplified; it makes readers think the story is about slaying monsters, but there's a lot of twists down the line x)
