Hahaha I love your enthusiasm about mythology, please explain further! And yeah, many are telling about the Orpheus tale similarity. In fact, Izanami being depicted as "the bad" (in shinto there are no good or bad deities) has its explanation on the original myth. You probably know that as you started it right, but it will be developed in one of the next chapters.
And yes, if Inari could not protect him anymore and Izanami was free to kill... luckily he didn't.
