The (surprisingly) underwhelming introduction of Kiro and the girl (damn you Kiro for not asking her name) is actually a welcome surprise. It's sorta hyped up to be this HUGE thing, but then you realize that... yeah. Relationships are kinda like this; at the end of the day, these two are strangers to each other. There is however, some subtext within their dialogue that I'm really appreciating; the girl looks like she has something to hide.
Also love the optometrist scene too, not just because Richard is already coming off as a loveable furball and that the optometrist's name gave me a good chuckle, but also because it immediately establishes something critical: the monsters may not necessarily be real. So far, none of the characters have talked about any monster parts (aside from Kiro's descriptors of course). Really interested to see if my theory about your story's metaphor holds.
