Darren thinks very much his age (that is, of a teenage boy) but his actions/ambitions are very mature which allows for his more immature moments to be taken with more grace and humor I think.

I also thought it was funny how the Shelly vaped rather than chewed actual bubble gum. Besides the absurity of doing that in front of a student I thought it was a clever take on the classic "blowing bubble gum" to show nonchlance. I'm not sure if that's what you intended but it was clever nonetheless. ^^

I very much enjoyed this opening chapter, it has a great hook and I'm interested to learn more about these characters. Erica is practically perfect in every way but she doesn't feel flat or without personality which is hard to pull off but you have certainly done so thus far. Thank you for sharing your work! 😊

Oh my goodness what a cliffhanger! Another wonderfully paced chapter as well. I felt like you wrote just the right amount of descriptors to make me visualize everything and capture the feelings as well without it ever getting stale or too much. Looking forward to the next chapter! ^^

I absolutely adore this perspective you've brought here, not just the idea itself which is refreshing but also in how it's delievered. I also felt like this was the perfect length for a start because it left me wanting to read more which is great too. I am very interested to see where the story will go from here and to learn about the main character's past and how they got to this point.
